$100K Prize In Hunger Fighting Contest To Be Awarded Tonight
A prize of 100-thousand dollars will be awarded in La Crosse tonight...
The money will be presented to one of two groups that came up with plans for fighting hunger in the La Crosse area. The contest, called the Coulee Collaboration, was announced over a year ago by the Franke Charitable Foundation. Its goal is to get many community organizations to pool their talents, and figure out ways to provide food to needy local residents. While only one group could win the grant money, foundation director Mel Hoffman says ideas offered by the losing group could become part of the hunger-fighting project.

Another Shot at Veto Override Not Likely
The DNR secretary appointment issue is dead for now. La Crosse state rep, Jennifer Shilling doesn't expect lawmakers to give another shot at overriding governor Doyle's veto of a bill to restore DNR secretary appointment authority to the state's natural resources board. Shilling was among those who voted to override in yesterday's failed attempt. Says she's not necessarily angry at the governor for his veto. Shilling tells us that she understands how the governor's perspective may have changed on the issue from supporting the change for several years to abruptly changing his mind last spring.
The assembly override attempt fell six votes short of the two-thirds needed to be successful.
