MADISON, Wis. (AP) Republican leaders in the state Assembly say they'll probably vote on a contentious mining bill during the first week in March. A spokesman for Assembly Speaker Robin Vos says leaders are aiming for March 6.
Renaming Of Hood Park Endorsed By Lax Park Board
A neighborhood park near Gundersen Lutheran could be known as Poage Park soon...
Plans to rename Hood Park for long-ago Olympic athlete George Poage from La Crosse have cleared the first couple of hurdles. Park director Steve Carlyon is leading the charge, because he worries that the name Hood Park suggests crime. City planner Larry Kirch tells the park board he's been researching the Hood Park name for years...and discovered that name was never officially approved by City Hall. But this time, the Poage name could get formal approval. The park board already has endorsed the idea unanimously.
Snow totals so far
The snow is piling up from this latest winter storm. Generally, snowfall amounts in our area so far range between four and five inches. The National Weather Service in La Crosse recorded 4.5 inches of new snow as of 5 o'clock this morning. There are four inches on the ground in Sparta, four inches in Caledonia and five inches in Winona.
