One Dead In St. Charles Motel Fire
A South Dakota man is identified as the motel guest who died in an overnight fire in St. Charles.
Vincent Wright was found dead, as firefighters battled the flames. Wright had just checked into the Downtown Motel in St. Charles yesterday. Three other people were staying at the motel, but none of them was injured. Flames were reported at the motel around 11 o'clock last night. A short time after that fire was under control, a second fire broke out at the motel.

Twenty-five-year-old Robert Schafer of Taylor is being treated at Gundersen Lutheran in La Crosse, after reportedly being shot once at the home of a woman he knows. The woman has a restraining order against Schafer. The shooter, identifed as Jarrod Thompson of Ettrick, says he warned Schafer that he had a gun, but Schafer kept approaching him. Schafer drove away from the house, and was later given a ride to a hospital. No charges have resulted yet from the shooting.

St Junious Gets 5 Years In Bar Stabbing
Five years in prison is the sentence given to a La Crosse man convicted of a stabbing last year at John's Bar.
Anquin St. Junious says he takes responsibilty for stabbing and wounding a bartender at John's, apparently by accident, during a fight with another man. St. Junious admits to a drinking problem, and has made a plan for improving himself once he's out of prison. Judge Dale Pasell rejected a proposed two-year prison term, saying the victim could have died, and that St. Junious poses a danger to the public.
