Westby School Referendum Fails
By a 115 vote margin, a three tiered $1.2 school referendum in Westby was voted down Tuesday. Superintendent, Chuck Norton told us after the vote that he was disappointed in the outcome and he and the school board will have to sit down to see what cuts will have to be made in 2013-14.
Norton says it's not an easy thing to do but they are used to it. In the past 9 years the district has had to cut almost $2.4 million from school budgets as well as reduce staff positions by 19. Another cost savings measure....they had to close a school in Chaseburg.
Norton says he's not sure yet, but the board may decide to hold another referendum in 2014.
