Former Deputy's Appeal Being Heard By State Arbitrator
There might not be a ruling for weeks or months after a labor hearing happening today in the Trisha Stratman case...
A state arbitrator is hearing arguments on whether Stratman was fired unjustly from her job as a La Crosse County sheriff's deputy, following a fatal crash. Stratman was dismissed just over a year ago for violating department policies...for driving at high speeds and going through red lights while responding to an emergency call. Stratman's squad car was going over 90 miles an hour when she collided with teenage driver Brandon Jennings at an intersection of Highway 35. Jennings died in the crash. A jury acquitted Stratman on a homicide charge.

Cowley Hall on the campus of UW-La Crosse was one focal point of the UW-System Regents budget meeting Thursday. Regents were shown a video which showed water in the walls...floors...labs.....not a good scene according to Brent Smith. Smith says the budget, approved Thursday, now heads to the Department of Administration for review.
UW Regents Approve Budget
The UW Board of Regents decided Thursday to seek funding for 22 building and maintenance projects at campuses throughout the state. A $672 million dollar capital budget is being considered separately from the budget which runs the schools themselves. Some, according to UW-Regent, Brent Smith, will go towards Cowley Hall on the UW-La Crosse campus.
Other projects according to the La Crosse Attorney......a new Meat and Muscle biology lab, plus renovations for the Wisconsin Center for Dairy Research and Babcock Hall and a new chemistry and biology building at UW Stevens Point. The entire budget, approved by the regents, now goes to the Department of Administration.
