Agricultural experts are warning that heavy snows can trigger roof collapses.
Snow should be cleared from a roof if snow loads are greater than a structure can bear, or if the building shows signs of stress. In Wisconsin, state codes require roofs to withstand at least 30 to 40 pounds of snow per square foot, but agriculture buildings are exempt.
The university extension warned that removal can be dangerous, since snow can slide, burying those below. Officials suggest using a roof rake from a safe distance

La Crosse has the highest monthly health insurance premiums of any metro area in the state at just over $772. That's 30% higher then the Madison metro area. La Crosse also has the highest quality health insurance plans, ranking three and a half out of four stars. Those numbers just released by the Citizen Action of Wisconsin Group. As poverty plagues families in the area, children from those families give additional challenges to school districts. New census numbers show La Crosse county to be one of the poorest in Wisconsin. With a total poverty level of just under 15 percent. In the La Crosse school district, the poverty level is a little higher for all students in the district; about 16 percent. That's a third higher than just ten years ago. Meanwhile, Onalaska's poverty rate among all students in the district is hovering at ten percent. Holmen is at about nine percent. Both of those districts have also had increases in poverty in the last ten years.

It wasn't easy for the Onalaska School District to expel a student for bringing a gun to school this month...
Superintendent John Burnett says this is the first time a student was caught bringing an actual firearm into the high school. The school board voted to expel the 15-year-old from the district for six years. Superintendent Burnett says the Onalaska district is trying to help the student's family find alternate schooling...but under the law, the district is not required to provide education to a student who is expelled.

A Juneau County sheriff’s detective has been arrested for drunk driving. 44-year-old Randy Georgeson was arrested early Saturday by a state trooper, after his unmarked sheriff’s S-U-V went into a ditch about four miles north of Mauston. He was not on duty.
Georgeson is charged with his first O-W-I offense, which is not a crime in Wisconsin and has a civil forfeiture for a penalty. He has a January 24th court date....but that's if he wants to challenege the ticket.
