County Mental Health Office Ponders Name Change
In these days of business consolidations, one company can sometimes make a wide variety of unrelated products.
The same is true with government agencies. In La Crosse County, services for children with physical disabilities and for people with substance abuse problems are provided by a mental health department. Agency head Matt Strittmater says the long-time name of his office...Mental Health Recovery Services...doesn't quite fit any more.
So the M-H-R-S board is doing a study to come up with a more suitable agency name. Strittmater says a decision could be made by the end of March.

The Mayo system has started using Skype computer technology to do long-distance diagnosis of stroke patients in La Crosse. Local Mayo Franciscan neurologist Greg Pupillo says video can give a specialist in Rochester more information to decide whether a patient is having a stroke. The equipment has been available in La Crosse for a month now, but it has not been needed yet to diagnose an actual patient. Most regional Mayo clinics will have the Skype system available by the end of this year.

(AP) The state Supreme Court says a newspaper has a right to complete copies of Juneau County's legal bills. The Juneau County Star-Times in 2010 asked the county for legal bills from an investigation into a former sheriff's deputy. The law firm that handled the probe released redacted bills to the newspaper through the county.
