Suspects Sought in La Crosse Robberies
Police are still looking for suspects in robberies and attempts reported in La Crosse this week-end. There was the woman who was attacked when she went to her car at four in the morning on King street downtown. She got hurt when the thief stomped on her foot and slammed her head into her car but he ran off before stealing anything. Another guy took a little time to report a robbery that happened in the middle of last week. He says he was attacked by about ten guys after a confrontation downtown at bartime. They got his phone and some cash and gave him a good beating in return. A couple with children were attacked in their southside home on Sunday evening and fought with the home invaders before driving them away and calling police.
UW-L Fire Update
The weekend fire in UW-La Crosse’s Wittich Hall has been ruled an accidental electrical fire. Firefighters were called to the second oldest academic building on campus around 10:45 p.m. Saturday. The fire started in and was contained to a basement storage area, but there is extensive smoke damage throughout the building. The fire started near a power strip on the wall, according to La Crosse Fire Department investigators.
One Dead In Vernon County Fire
A 78 year old woman died in a house fire Friday in Vernon County. Helen Boardman was pronounced dead at the scene of the fire at her home on Highway 35 in Genoa. The Vernon County Sheriff’s office says her son, Steve Boardman, arrived home late Friday night to find the home engulfed in flames. Members of four fire departments worked together, but the home was destroyed by the fast moving flames. An investigation is centered on finding the origin of the fatal fire.
Bridge Inspections Start Today In Winona
If your traveling on Highway 43 over the Mississippi River in Winona this week, expect to run into lane closures. It's that time for annual bridge inspections. Single lanes will be seen all week from 8am to 6pm and the DOT will have flaggers out letting you know where to go. These inspections take place annually with in depth inspections occurring every other year.
Off To Prison For A While
A Winona man has been sentenced to more than 24 years in federal prison on child pornography charges.
57 year old Dennis Chase was convicted last December on six counts of transportation and possession of child pornography.
The indictment alleges that Chase sent pictures and videos of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct and had images stored on his computer and external hard drives.
