95th Assembly Candidates To Debate
The two candidates hoping to fill the vacant 95th Assembly District seat will meet for a debate at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Candidates Jill Billings, a Democrat, and Dave Drewes, a Republican, will debate from 7-8 p.m. Monday, October 31st, in the Hall of Nations in Centennial Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
Monroe County Man Told To Pay Up
A Monroe County man has been ordered to pay close to $150 thousand in forfeitures and costs after a Circuit Judge found him in violation of a few state laws. Ray Miller of M & M Ranch & Outfitters violated state laws regulating maintenance of drinking water wells and assuring clean water. According to the complaint, filed by the Department of Justice, Miller failed to correct significant deficiencies on his property's four wells and one valve pit.
Despite receiving multiple notices of violations from the DNR, Miller repeatedly refused to bring the wells into compliance.
Miller was also told by the DNR that there may be funding available to him to help with the associated costs of the needed repairs, Miller refused to remedy the violations. Miller also promised to bring the wells into compliance but refused to do so.......for 2 years.
La Crosse Man Facing Felonies For Knife Attack
A La Crosse guy faces felonies after cops say he cut up a neighbor with a knife. Police say 25 year-old Christopher Benson got into a fight with his neighbor over a woman. The fight, they say, led to Benson slicing the neighbor in the neck and the face. Cops found the neighbor in the emergency room, getting treatment for the cuts and his battered face. The neighbor says he was attacked. But police say it seems like he gave nearly as good as he got because Benson had some injuries of his own.
4 Hurt In Monroe County Crash
4 people were sent to the hospital after a one car crash in Monroe County last night. 35 year old Juana Gutierrez of Tomah was driving on Highway 131 near Wilton when she failed to stop for a stop sign.....drove down an embankment and 300 feet later, came to rest in a creek.
Gutierrez along with her 3 year old and 7 year old children all transported to Tomah Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Another passenger, 53 year old Marcelino Lopez of Rockland, was aitlifted to Gunderson Lutheran in Lacrosse with what were thought to be life threatening injuries........he was later upgraded to fair condition.
The accident is under investigation by the Monroe County Sherrif's Department.
