Teacher Accused Of Sex Behavior
A special education teacher at a La Crescent school is charged with molesting children after he was confronted by his students. Thirty-seven-year-old Jason David Barker is charged in Houston County District Court with second-degree criminal sexual conduct and fifth-degree sexual conduct with children younger than 13.
Prosecutors say five students at La Crescent Montessori Academy confronted Barker earlier this month about his behavior. School staff called police and Baker was arrested at his home Jan. 18.
A criminal complaint says one student told school staff Baker put his hands down her pants and touched her breasts. Baker has denied the allegations, but says sometimes he pushes the ``boundaries in teaching.''

Kader Keeps Council Seat In Recall Race
A landslide win for Audrey Kader...
The La Crosse City Council president got 73 per cent of the votes in a three-way recall race on Tuesday. Kader received 196 votes in the 11th district, to 42 for Jerome Gundersen and 26 for Gage Maurer. Local tea party activists wanted Kader removed from the council for reportedly leading efforts to reduce public input at council meetings. Kader also was one of several La Crosse School Board members targeted for recall in 1992, after the board approved a controversial school boundary map and busing plan. Kader won that election, too.
