Fundraiser For Flags
They have placed flags on veterans graves for years. But the La Crosse Memorial Day Association's, coffers are running dry. Now, according to Ken Birnbaum, they are holding a fund raiser.
Birnbaum says 125 volunteers flag more than 7 thousand graves every year, and that costs $5 thousand a year. We have an address on our WIZM website in which you can send a donation.

City Burn Ban Continues
Nearly two weeks after a burn ban was put into place in La Crosse, the fire department says it will remain. Despite a little bit of rain over the week-end, the fire department says the burn ban will have to stay in place because of the excessively dry conditions in the city. All of La Crosse county is in a zone of Very High fire danger, according to the DNR, while counties just to the south and east are considered to be in an Extreme fire danger zone. The La Crosse burn ban includes fireworks and outdoor fire pits while charcoal and gas grills are still allowed for cooking.
Police Get Help in Arrest of Bold Burglars
Those burglars are getting bold. La Crosse cops say they've nailed a couple of thugs who let themselves in to an apartment on 11th street in between the UWL campus and downtown early Sunday morning. While there were people inside. Apparently, the guys who lived in the apartment were sitting out on the deck eating pizza at about one in the morning, looked into the apartment and saw two guys rummaging around inside. Same guys came out onto the deck and demanded some of the pizza. A confrontation turned violent quickly. Cops wound up arresting 23 year-old Anthony Lee and 17 year-old Bret Clark with the help of some good samaritans who happened by at about the time a single officer was wrestling with the two thugs. Clark and Lee face a number of charges.

It's a milestone for the Freedom Honor Flights in the La Crosse area...The 10th flight from La Crossse to Washington for older veterans happens on Saturday, September 22nd.
