Off To Prison For A While
A Winona man has been sentenced to more than 24 years in federal prison on child pornography charges.
57 year old Dennis Chase was convicted last December on six counts of transportation and possession of child pornography.
The indictment alleges that Chase sent pictures and videos of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct and had images stored on his computer and external hard drives.
Walker Weekly Address
Governor Scott Walker wasted no time in his weekly republican address Saturday, sending out a message that Wisconsin is now going in the right direction after a contentious year.
In his address....he said that the nation should take a look at the changes he has made here...when electing it's next President. And Barack Obama is not making the right changes.
Miss La Crosse Oktoberfest Takes Miss Wisconsin Title
Another Miss La Crosse-Oktoberfest moves up the pageant ladder...
The reigning Miss Oktoberfest, Kate Gorman, has won the Miss Wisconsin title for this year, meaning that she'll compete at the Miss America contest in January. Gorman is now the second straight Miss Wisconsin from La Crosse County, succeeding Raeanna Johnson of Holmen, also a former Miss Oktoberfest. Elizabeth Kramer from Holmen finished third at the state pageant in Oshkosh. Kramer followed Johnson as Miss Oktoberfest in 2010, and was succeeded by Gorman last fall.
Will Tuition Increase Hurt Enrollments
Will the latest tuition increase across the board hamper efforts by the state colleges and universities to get students from out of state here? Good question says UW-L Chancellor, Joe Gow.
The 5.5% increase approved two weeks ago will take another $400 from students attending UW-La Crosse....higher at the Milwaukee and Madison campuses.
Basement Fire Damages Second-Oldest Building At UWL
The original physical education building at U-W-L will be shut down for a while, because of a weekend fire.
On Saturday night, flames broke out in the basement of Wittich Hall, directly north of Main Hall. Nobody was hurt, and the cause of the fire isn't known yet. The Wittich fire happened less than two blocks from the football stadium, where thousands of people were gathered Saturday night for the Freedom Fest concert. Hetzel says the festival did not interfere with fire department activity.
