Pot Fight May Be Reason For Jackson Co Shooting
An apparent fight over growing marijuana may have led to a shooting last night in Jackson County...
A 23-year-old man has been treated for a bullet wound in the back, and an older man is accused of the shooting. Sixty-one-year-old Michael Charles of the town of Franklin is being held without bond in the Jackson County Jail, on a charge of endangering safety. A 22-caliber rifle was seized at the Charles home near Taylor, along with some marijuana. Sheriff's officers say Charles was upset with the shooting victim for going to a place where marijuana was being grown.
Kong Vue Pleads Guilty to Young Woman's Murder
The man who admits to shooting a La Crosse woman last March during a burglary could get up to 40 years in prison.
Kong Vue pleads guilty to the murder of Sara Hougom. He and his uncle, Pao Choua Vue, could be sentenced together in November for what police say was a random shooting. The negotiated count for Kong Vue is reckless homicide. Three other charges were dismissed.
La Crosse Police Chief Selection Named
Ronald Tischer will be La Crosse's new police chief. The Waukesha police captain was selected from three remaining candidates Thursday by the La Crosse police and fire commission and immediately accepted the job offer.. The selection comes four months after former chief Ed Kondracki retired. We asked commission member Doug Happel about the length of time to come to the decision

Farm2School Could Suffer With Crop Losses
Less apple pies in La Crosse County schools this year? County Nutrionist, Linda Lee, who oversees the Farm 2 School program, says the weather may play into a smaller crop this year.
The program uses locally grown fruits and vegetables which go to schools in Onalaska, Holmen, Bangor, West Salem and La Crosse.
