Council Begins Work on Mayor Pay Issue This Week
The city of La Crosse doesn't know if it's getting a new city administrator. But if voters do approve that change to city government in April, they'll also have a good idea of what will be expected from the mayor's office from now on. This week the city council votes on whether to cut in half the mayor's salary if the city administrator referendum is okayed in the spring
City council president Audrey Kader envisions a half time mayor as performing basically a public relations function for the city.
Report Finds Minnesota and Wisconsin Not Great for Retirees
Looking to retire? Maybe do it somewhere else. In its annual list of ten worst places to retire, the website TopRetirements.com has listed Wisconsin and Minnesota among the stinkers. Among the factors cited for being on the ten worst for retirees, the website says Wisconsin, at number ten, has ridiculous property and income taxes. For Minnesota, number seven on the list, the site mentions high income taxes mostly due to the absence of any pension or social security exemptions. Property taxes are high. Also, the weather's a factor; winters can be harsh in Minnesota.
Blair Taylor Looking To Become The First
The Blair Taylor School District is looking at going to a 4-day school week....and they have the approval from the Department of Public Instruction. But before kids start thinking it's a 3-day weekend coming...Superintendent, Dennis Pervetski says think again.
He says students would likely have either Monday or Friday off and classes
would start at about 8 a.m. and end no later than 4 p.m. A firm structure will
come after public meetings are held. If it's approved, they would become the
first district in the state to have 4 day school weeks.

$9 million Project In Sparta Complete
On Sunday, the public saw the completion of the new Emergency, Radiology and Registration Departments at Mayo Clinic Health System in Sparta. A $1.9 million project that brought in $1.6 million from staff, community and business donations. Dr. Tim Johnson is the CEO of Fransiscan Healthcare and talked about having a new digital mammography area in the e.r.
Two other new areas include digital x-ray and radiology scanner which gives off less radiation. In all...the two phase project cost around $9 million.
