Healthy Checkouts At Wal Mart
2 checkout aisles at the WalMart on Mormon Coulee Road no longer offer candy and gum.....instead you'll see fruit, granola snacks and chalk and bubbles. Why?
Tiffany Adrians with the county health department says an addition to the healthy checkout aisles, Wal-Mart displays a Foot Steps to Health board in their produce department featuring quick and delicious recipes along with coloring sheets for children. They say they're not taking away options, simply encouraging the healthier ones. It's all a part of a Community Putting Prevention to Work Grant.

Bear Seen In West Salem
A very interesting spectator showed up at the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway this morning....though racing does not start for 2 more weeks. A black bear was spotted roaming the grandstands inside the track, according to track Marketing Director, Dave Noelke. The 100 pound or so bear, was trapped by the hospitality area after a while, and track officials opened a gate to let it back into the wild. The DNR was called, but the bear was long gone by the time they showed up. They, along with a wildlife biologist, were tracking the bear around 12:40pm today, near Elm Street and West Ave. The West Salem High School was placed on lock down for the time being.
