Bigger Cut In Onalaska Bus Service Proposed
Are the savings enough to justify cutting bus service?
Onalaska's mayor doesn't think so. Mike Giese says the city council voted last night to reduce funding for the M-T-U another eight-thousand dollars beyond what he's willing to cut. And he says that doesn't amount to much on the average property tax bill...just over a dollar. To sacrifice bus service for such small savings, he believes, would be "foolish."
Giese tells us the current version of the Onalaska budget for 2011 would shorten M-T-U service in his city by six hours a day. The budget gets another hearing on November 8th.
Burke named Cardinal
A big promotion for a former La Crosse bishop. Raymond Burke has been named a Cardinal, an announcement made this morning by Pope Benedict. Burke previously served as Bishop of the La Crosse Diocese, and later as Archbishop of the St. Louis Diocese. He currently serves in Rome where he heads the Vatican Supreme Court. As Cardinal, Burke will be among those charged with selecting the next Pope.

Woman Accused in Drunk Stabbing, Beer Involved
A La Crosse woman is in hot water for stabbing her boyfriend. Police say Ann Bolling went after her man at their place on Mormon Coulee Road early Monday morning. They say she was pretty drunk. And the victim was drunk. In fact, the homeless guy who had crashed there for the night was drunk. And cops say the 48 year-old Bolling went out for more beer after she stabbed her guy and then came back with the beer in time to get arrested. There appears to be no real clear motive for the stabbing although Bolling did express frustration that the victim was always on her to go buy more beer. Police say they recovered a 12 inch knife at the scene. There was blood, bits of flesh and some hair on the blade.
