Wisconsin Shakes With Earthquake
(AP) A minor earthquake rumbled through southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. Seismologists with the U.S. Geological Survey say the 2.4 magnitude quake happened just before 10 p.m. Monday and was centered about 30 miles from Kenosha, just east of McHenry, Ill. Several police departments in the area got calls from people who felt the quake. But no one reported any damage or injuries. The USGS estimates 1.3 million quakes with magnitudes between 2.0 and 2.9 occur each year.
Santorum In Minnesota Today
AP-Out of the Florida hunt, Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum plans two Midwestern stops Monday, including one in Minnesota. The former Pennsylvania senator is due to hold an afternoon appearance at St. Charles Community College in Cottleville, Mo., followed by an evening event in southwestern Minnesota. His event at a Pizza Ranch in Luverne, Minn., would make him the first 2012 presidential candidate to campaign in the state this year. Minnesota holds its precinct caucuses next week, but the results of a preference poll are nonbinding. Texas Rep. Ron Paul is airing TV ads in the state. Santorum and Paul have all but conceded Florida, where Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich are competing hard for a win Tuesday. Santorum has been off the campaign trail tending to family matters.
Drake To Remain Empty For Weeks
The U-W-L dorm that was damaged by fire this weekend could be left vacant for the next month...University chancellor Joe Gow says students will not be able to move back into Drake Hall for two to four weeks, because of repairs that must be made following a basement fire on Sunday. Although there was damage to the electrical systems at Drake, Gow says the fire was not electrical in nature. There's also no evidence of an accelerant being used to start furniture on fire. The chancellor says there are plans to install sprinkler systems in the residence halls that were built in the 50's and 60's.
You Big Baby
(AP) At 13 pounds, 13 ounces, Asher Stewardson was even bigger than his brother at birth. Asher was delivered without the aid of surgery on Thursday at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Fifteen months ago, his brother, Judah, arrived weighing 12 pounds and an ounce at birth. Mercy officials say only a tenth of 1 percent of all newborns weigh more than 11 pounds at birth. The boys' mother, Kendall, Stewardson, endured six hours of labor without an epidural injection. She says she and her husband, Joshua, wanted to avoid cesarean delivery because that wouldn't have been good for her or Asher.
