Billings Is Listening To The Candidates
State Represenative, Jill Billings, says she is watching the gubernatorial campaign trail of Kathleen Vinehout and Kathleen Falk real closely. But the one thing that bothers the La Crosse Democrat, is the talk of fake candidates being used in primaries like we saw last year in recall elections.
Billings, during her interview with WIZM News, did not say which candidate she would support...saying she's listening like everyone else is....to the issues each one has.
La Crosse Woman's Death Considered A Murder
Police are treating the death of a 35-year-old woman as a homicide.
Chief Ed Kondracki says an autopsy has been performed on the body of Kristen Rodgers, who was found dead in a Caledonia St. parking lot early Tuesday. The cause of her death has not been released, but Kondracki says it was not accidental, and is "possibly drug-related." The chief says the murder is thought to be an isolated incident, not related to other recent drug deaths in the area. Any clues can be called into 784-TIPS
Campbell Votes To Buy Church For Library
A former Baptist church on French Island will be turned into a new library for the Town of Campbell.
Town residents voted 134 to 55 in favor of the purchase on Tuesday night, after a public hearing. The library would be moved out of the town hall to provide more space for emergency services. Some opponents of the plan argued that the town government doesn't need more space if the population has not grown, while others suspected that town officials had a conflict of interest in arranging for the purchase.
Police Investigating After Body Found on Northside
Details are sketchy. But La Crosse police say they're investigating the suspicious death of a middle aged woman on the northside today. Someone found the woman in the parking lot this morning around seven and called police. Cops say she was dead when they got there. At this point, the only description police are giving of the woman is white and middle-aged. They're still waiting for a positive ID from family members.
Campbell to Vote Tonight on Buying Church
The possibility of the town of Campbell buying an old church on French Island has sparked some protest. We've heard numerous complaints about unnecessary spending regarding the potential purchase. But town board supervisor Pat Post says she's made a well-below-appraisal on the former Baptist church and there's not much work to do to turn it into a new library space for the town
The town board holds a special six o'clock meeting tonight so that people in Campbell can vote on the purchase.
