Head of DSPS Likes Direction New State Agency is Going
The head of a new Wisconsin state department sees areas of improvement in his own agency. Dave Ross is the secretary of the newly formed department of Safety and Professional Services. He recognizes that his agency can significantly improve on investigating professional license holders
Ross's agency was formed this summer when the state's Commerce department was dismantled. His department recently dealt with the discipline of UW system doctors who handed out bogus sick notes for teachers attending protests in Madison.
La Crosse Committee Agrees to Fund Study
La Crosse will likely be in on the financing of a study to determine whether moving an interstate exit is a good idea. A city council committee has signed off on putting in ten thousand dollars towards the fifty thousand dollar study to consider alternatives for interstate exit 3. The DOT is planning work on the exit and some have questioned whether that might be an opportunity to move the exit in order to create opportunities for development and remove some northside homes from the floodlplain. La Crosse county, the city of Onalaska and the La Crosse Area Planning Committee would also help fund the study.
Winona Soldier To Be Honored
Army Staff Sergeant Adam Sands of Tomah has been chosen to represent his fellow Soldiers during the U.S. Army All-American Bowl tomorrow in San Antonio, Texas. Around 100 Soldiers are chosen for this honor each year. Sands, along with Sergeant Matthew Gaulke of Winona, have been teamed with one of the 90 U.S. All-Americans this week leading up to the Nation’s premier high school all-star football game. The Army Soldier-Heroes will be honored during the U.S. Army All-American Awards Dinner and during pre-game ceremonies.
The soldiers being honored must have recieved a medal of honor or a purple heart. Gaulke talks about how he recieved his medal.

Also being recognized is Sergeant Matthew Gaulke of Winona. The game will be televised on NBC tomorrow at noon.
Local GOP Ready To Kick Off Re-Election Campaign
The La Crosse County GOP will hold the grand opening of their headquarters on Copeland Avenue tomorrow morning at 10....and Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch will be on hand to help kick start a Governor recall re-election campaign. County GOP Chair, Bill Feehan, says they they don't doubt a recall will take place.
Former Senator Dan Kapanke will kick off the opening with remarks followed by Kleefisch. Governor Scott Walker will join in on the opening via telephone.
