Red Cross Drive
The American Red Cross will be collecting donations to support its efforts in the areas affected by the Spring Storms and Tornadoes. Red Cross disaster workers are helping people all across the country, making sure they have a safe place to stay, food to eat, emotional support, basic health services and relief supplies. These latest storms have resulted in large responses in Alabama, Mississippi, North Carolina, Missouri, Georgia, Virginia and Arkansas. Collections are being done at the La Crosse Center and at Valley View Mall (JC Penny’s – Barnes and Noble Entrance) beginning at 6:00 am until 6:00 pm Thursday. Their top priority is to provide food, shelter and relief supplies to the thousands of people affected by these storms.
Doyle Wins in 94th
Democrat Steve Doyle defeated Republican John Lautz for the Wisconsin District 94 Assembly, flipping a seat held by Republicans for 16 years in a race that focused attention on Republican Gov. Scott Walker's plan to curtail collective bargaining right for most public employees.
Construction Time For District
A major part of the Lacrosse School District 2008 referendum is about to get underway.
The district's Joe Ledvina says the district will spend $1.57 million on 49 projects at 17 schools district wide.
One project, replacing a boiler at Lincoln Middle School, was put on hold until next week due to cold temperatures in the area this week.
That's Alot Of Drugs
The Onalaska Police Department along with 4 other entities, held a drug drop off event last Saturday and to Dare Officer Jason Jobe's surprise......they collected 775 pounds of pills, medications, controlled and uncontrolled liquids.
Also collected, 28 pounds of needles.
Jobe says another collection site will be held in November.....meanwhile the Lacrosse County Hazardous Waste Material Site will be holding a similar event this Saturday.
13 Busted For Heroin In Sparta
8 Sparta residents and possibly 5 more could face heroin drug charges after police raided two homes there last weekend.
Sparta police had conducted an 18 month investigation into the trafficking of the drug and decided to bust the homes last Saturday.
Those arrested range in age from 20 to 30 years old and they face charges from conspiracy to deliver heroin and trafficking to maintaining a drug house. 5 others were busted in the raids though it's unsure as to their charges at this time.
