Police Warn Of Getting Too Close to Flooded River
Streets Plan to County Board Next
Complete Streets appear poised to take over the county of La Crosse. The city council will likely approve the Complete Streets concept for street construction tonight. Three county committees have done likewise and the full county board takes it up next week. For good reasons, says Jack Zabrowski, in the county's health department. Not the least of which has something to do with the county's blossoming obesity epidemic. He says physical activity has been engineered out of our lives and Complete Streets puts more of that activity safely within reach. Complete Streets essentially mandates a consideration of human powered travel when making street construction planning decisions.
Who Killed The 9 Year Old Year Girl????
The D.A. in Black River Falls has announced who he thinks who killed a 9 year old girl 21 years ago. At a press conference this afternoon, District Attorney Gerald Fox stated that forensic evidence led them to Chris Thundercloud, a Black River Falls man who died in 2006. Fox claims he raped, tortured and killed Jennifer Wesho in August of 1989 and that Wesho was last seen with Thundercloud.
Wesho's father found her near-nude body in a wooded area near her home in the Sand Pillow Village of the Ho-Chunk housing development, near Black River Falls. Fox says that Thundercloud raped, beat and burned Wesho with cigarettes before strangling her.
Fox says that Thundercloud died at age 55 before authorities had enough evidence to arrest him in the Wesho's murder.
Super Searches Continue
Interest in 3 area Superintendent searches has been relatively high.
Onalaska recieved 11 resumes for their open post......Westby looked over 7, and named a Superintendent Monday night, and Lacrosse has whittled 9 applications down to 2 people. Not bad says school board President, Christine Claire. She says it will be hard to replace outgoing Superintendent, Jerry Kember, but who ever replaces the long time educator...should have no problem adjusting to a paved road that Kember has laid.
Onalaska hopes to name one after May 4th......and the new super in Lacrosse could be named by the end of the month.
