State Treasurer Might Have Money For You
It's not completely inconceivable that there's a big pile of cash with your name on it in the state treasury. In La Crosse county, there's about 17 thousand people that have some unclaimed money being held by the state. State treasurer Kurt Schuller has taken to the road over the last several days around the state to get that money back into the hands of its rightful owners. Schuller will be at the La Crosse library--main branch--from 9 to 11 this morning to help you find unclaimed property. Schuller also has stops planned during the day in Westby, Viroqua, Sparta and Tomah.
Is This Voter Fraud???
An official with the Government Accountability Board says it’s illegal to vote where a person is just temporarily located. So did a Madison woman who claims she voted in Onalaska last November break the law? The Dane County D.A. just got the case from Lacrosse County and will look into it now.
A legislative aide, who worked for a state Assembly candidate near Onalaska, says she made it clear on her Facebook, that her stay in Onalaska last November was temporary, and she should have voted in Madison. In an Onalaska police report, the aide she said was told by a poll worker it would be okay to vote there – and she didn’t mean to do anything wrong.
A Dane County supervisor wrote a blog entry that challenged the aide’s right to vote in Onalaska. A Madison man read it, and then filed a complaint.
Felony County Now At 40 For Melrose Man
A horrific tale of sexual abuse and torture spanning more than 15 years is detailed in a mountain of criminal charges filed this week against a western Wisconsin man. The victim, a 19-year-old woman now living in the Sheboygan area, was brutally and repeatedly raped from age 4 until last Christmas, according to criminal complaints charging the man with 40 counts of sexual assault and incest.
The 40 year old Melrose man has been charged in Jackson and Manitowoc counties with a total of 40 felonies that carry a maximum combined prison term of nearly 900 years. He was arrested May 5th, two weeks after the victim first reported the crimes to Sheboygan County investigators. The complaints detail dozens of episodes, including one instance where the man had his nephew join in raping and torturing the victim.
Monroe County District Attorney and Special Prosecutor, Dan Cary, said prosecutors are working with local investigators and prosecutors in the other counties. The is currently in the Jackson County Jail, held in lieu of a half million dollar cash bond.
Tornado Strikes Tomah Speedway
Once again Mother Nature has proven she is not a race fan in 2011. This time on a more serious scale. The storm that tore up parts of LaCrosse, Sparta and Tomah also hit Excalibur Speedway.
“A few of the power lines at the speedway were blown over and unfortunately we are not the only one having issues. The soonest we were able to find anyone to come and repair the damage was Friday. That is too close to race time and so we made the decision to push the opening back one more week. We hope everyone enjoys their holiday weekend.” -Greg Oliver, Race Operations Manager.
Officials plan to have everything repaired by the weekend and have everything back up
