Car Fire Fee Nears Approval in West Salem
Every local government is looking for ways to come up with additional revenue. Car fires are a place to start. The West Salem fire district could add a five hundred dollar car fire fee, pending a vote by the West Salem village board tonight. Village administrator Theresa Schnitzler says firefighters don't like the fee because they fear people won't call about a car fire until it's too late
The towns of Barre and Hamilton have already approved the fee.
Tomah Man facing 18 Counts Of Prostitution
A Tomah man, who several witnesses said will basically do anything to get sex from women, was in a Monroe County courtroom Monday. 53 year old Mark Clay listened as Judge Todd Ziegler read off 29 counts against the man. 18 of them dealing with prostitution. The others dealing with threats, battery and drug dealing.
Prosecutors contend that over the past couple of years, Clay would offer women around Tomah sex in exchange for cash, drugs and alcohol. Police also found in his apartment, over 40 pairs of used women's underwear, that they claim Clay purchased from women in bars for up to $40 a pair. They were found in bags that were labeled with the woman's name and date he got them. Naked pictures were also found of area women, some Clay apparently paid them to take. It all came to a climax when Clay was arrested for assaulting a bartender in a bathroom at a Tomah bar recently. He's free on a cash bond.
Riverfest Goes On With Heat......Has Plans In Place
The annual Riverfest begins today.....and besides kids rides, entertainment and food....the heat will also be a big conversation amongst festers. WIZM'S Dan Deicher talked with officials about what they are doing to deal with the heat this week.
Power Grid Holding It's Own So Far
Xcel Energy says we're getting close to peaking the power grid. Hot temperatures have forced some to crank up their air conditioners and some leave them on all night. Brian Elwood of Xcel Energy.
Elwood says we only had a three day stretch last year where the power grid was dinged....with at least 3 more days of the high temps to go...he says this could get interesting.
Officials Caution You When Out In Heat
The heat index could stay at 3 figures the rest of the week. Cause for concern among the areas hospitals. WIZM'S Dan Deicher has the story.
Area hospitals are prepared for people to come in or to be brought in.....all suffering from the effects of the heat. Kim Lombard of Gunderson Lutheran says there are signs you should be looking for if you have been in the heat too long.
Lombard says of course keep plenty of water around......stay out of the sun......keep the AC going....and check on those that may not have air conditioning.
