Arcadia Budget Meeting Cancelled
The final of four public hearings on the state budget proposal scheduled for April 13th in Arcadia has been canceled. The news Tuesday comes after another hearing had to be moved from Minong to Superior after the school that was to host the Minong meeting said it was concerned that it couldn't handle the expected crowds.
Budget committee co-chairman Rep. Robin Vos said today that he doesn't know exactly why the Arcadia High School backed out of plans to host the hearing. He says another site nearby in western Wisconsin close to Black River Falls is being sought.
The first hearing is Thursday in Stevens Point followed by the Superior stop on Friday. A third hearing is set for West Allis on Monday.
Sparta Loses Beer/Alcohol Votes And City Clerk
Voters in Sparta were asked to decide whether to reverse an almost 50 year ban on selling alcohol outside of a bar. For the 8th time.........it's won't happen. Voters shot down both questions, the first that would allow beer sales by 260 votes and the second to sell alcohol by 60 votes.
Hegenbarth Foods General Manager, Todd Hammond, who oversees operations at the Sparta Piggly Wiggly has backed both questions for years now....and is once again...dissapointed.
The ban has been in place since 1963 and this is the eighth time since 1982 voters have shot down the referendums.
Also, long time City Clerk, Barb Pederson lost her seat to Julie Hanson, 1145 to 1134.
