Democrats Claim Recalls Going Better Than Planned
That's the position the Wisconsin Democratic Party is in, as it promotes recall efforts against eight Republican state senators. It's not going to say how close they are to filing papers against any Senator, including La Crosse's Dan Kapanke. Graeme Zielinski, the main spokesman for the state Democrats, does say that the petition drives are running above expectations. He tells us that some Republicans disenchanted with Governor Walker are helping Dems to circulate papers.
Drunken, By River, Intercepted: A Milwaukee Man's Nightcap in La Crosse
A little disorientated drunkenness can end tragically if you walk a little too close to a flood-swollen river. The precise circumstances under which a La Crosse police reserve found a fellow in Riverside Park this week-end. The say the 22 year-old was walking right next to the Mississippi very early Saturday morning when police intercepted him. Really, really drunk and not making much sense, they say. When they asked the guy where he was going, he said he was headed to a friend's house. When they asked where, he pointed to the west, towards the river. Cops wheeled the guy into de-tox and left him with a public intoxication warning
St. Rose Suffers Thefts
Nuns in La Crosse apparently thinking a little security these days. Comes after several thefts in the last few months at St Rose Convent. Over a thousand dollars disappearing from an office. A laptop as well. After another couple hundred disappeared over the week-end, the nuns finally called the cops. Depending on who's responsible for the thieving, they're not sure if they want to press charges. But they have started locking the office door.
Police Arrest Hobbled Drunk Driver
When police pull over a drunk driver, they'll ask about ailments that keep the driver from performing field sobriety tests. And cops hear some stuff, too. Everything from old football injuries to diabetes. But rarely do they run across guys like Bruce Collins, who they pulled over this week-end after he tried to elude a cop on the streets. He got out of the car with a cast. A broken ankle. No walk and turn test for Collins but he did fail the tests they gave him and blew a .14. His fifth drunk driving arrest.
