Central High School Wants New Commons Area
Central High School in Lacrosse wants to change the way the east side entrance looks and maybe asking for your help in making it happen. A presentation was shown to the school board Monday night, which would turn the commons area into a more desireable space for students, staff and visitors.
The $180 thousand project would include a new student store and a small branch of Altra Federal Credit Union. The financial breakdown would be $60 thousand spread into 3 entities. They include Central High School fund raising........Central Booster Club fund raising and the capitol improvement budget.
Also included would be community partnerships, community/family donations and wall tile sales. Fundraising will go until March with a tentative ground breaking set for the summer.
Winona To Hold Arson Hearing Tonight
Still no arrests in the arsons that struck Winona the past couple of weeks. But the public is being invited to a special meeting tonight to get updated on a series of fires that have occurred in Winona over the past six weeks. The West End Neighborhood Watch Group is being reactivated in an effort give police some help in finding the person responsible for the three most recent fires in the central part of the city.
Both the police chief and fire chief will be on hand to discuss the ongoing problem.
The meeting will be held tonight at the Winona Veterans Center on East Sarnia Street starting at 6.
Senator Johnson Comments On Survey
U.S Senator Ron Johnson is commenting on a recent survey that showed, by a two thirds majority, public discontent with Congress is at record levels. He takes issue with the fact that congress has passed bills this year...the senate has not acted on them. And congress passed a budget this year....the senate hasn't. Johnson summed up the survey, which said we have a congress with a do nothing record, this way.
Two thirds of those surveyed said current members of Congress should be voted out of office next year.
Associated Bank To Close La Crosse Branch
Green Bay based Associated Banc Corporation announced that it plans to close down 20 Associated Bank branches in its three-state region of operation.....Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois.
Councilman Continues Critique of Mayoral Veto
More criticism for La Crosse mayor Matt Harter today.. It comes after the mayor's veto this week of unanimous council approval for a temporary firefighter hiring. Council member Bob Seaquist says the mayor maybe should have mentioned something about his opposition to the hiring during city vacancy review committee meetings
The temporary hiring would have replaced a firefighter who's currently on military leave.
