Lacrosse Robber To Trial
The man accused of robbing a La Crosse business and plotting a similar crime in Onalaska pleads 'not guilty'...
A trial will be scheduled for Timothy Wantoch (WAHN-tock), who was arrested while trying to run from a shopping center on Highway 35.
In court today, La Crosse police investigator Jake Jansky refers to a video of a September Payday Loans holdup, showing that robber using items that Wantoch had on him in Onalaska:
Police say Wantoch drew attention to himself by wearing dark glasses and acting suspiciously near a loan store in Onalaska.
School Employee Going To Trial
The Holmen School District employee accused of manufacturing drugs at his home pleads 'not guilty'...
Dustin Wood of Onalaska entered his plea earlier this week, meaning the case will go to trial. He's charged with five drug-related counts, including growing marijuana and warehousing drugs. Police searched Wood's home this month and found packages of pot, along with marijuana being grown outside.
Wood has been placed on leave from his job as an educational assistant at Holmen High School.
Car Leads To Charges
A week ago, four young men were spotted walking on I-90 near Bangor, after their car ran out of gas.
Actually, it wasn't THEIR car. It was stolen, and they had taken a ride in it to the Stevens Point area and back. Now, the four...ages 17 to 24, are officially charged with car theft.
The driver claimed he had gotten the car from his mother, but the vehicle's ignition showed signs of being broken into.
An arrest warrant was out for that driver, because he was out of jail on bond and ordered not to drive at all.
High School Lego Team? Yup!
High schools have football teams. They've got volleyball teams. Even quiz bowl teams. Now La Crosse's Central High will have a LEGO team.
Trane company and Logistics Health are donating ten thousand dollars to Central for the school to start a LEGO team. FIRST Lego League is an international robotics program designed for 9 to 16 years olds. Teams build and program various robots using the LEGO robotics kits.
Teams then participate in competitions where the robots are required to complete various challenges and courses.
High Bond For Mathews
Bond has been set high for a La Crosse man accused of 'child enticement'...
Edward Mathews will need 50-thousand dollars in cash to get out of jail. Mathews is accused of threatening a girl with a knife in the Logan High area. The D-A's office says the 61-year-old Mathews has a sexual assault charge on his record from Illinois, dating back almost 30 years.
A formal criminal complaint should be ready by Friday.
