UW-L Cancer Benefit This Weekend
The UW-La Crosse Football and Dance teams will once again be staging the 6th Annual Rob Wagner Cancer Benefit tonight and tomorrow. Wagner's teammate, Eric Johnson started the event.
Wagner was diagnosed with cancer in his wrist which led to him to cut his football career short at UW-L. The benefit, with proceeds going to Gunderson Lutheran Steppin Out In Pink progra, is tonight at 7pm and tomorrow night at 5, both being held at the Graff Main Hall Auditorium. In 5 years they have raised over $5o thousand.
Vikings Against The Ropes With NFL
NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell and Pittsburg Steelers President Art Rooney, were in Minnesota Friday with one goal in mind.........get a new Vikings stadium bill passed...and do it now.
The pair met with Governor Mark Dayton and a handlful of lawmakers in the capitol. Goodell said he made no implied threats but in reality he didn't need to. The NFL head said that the team and league are giving the state another 10 or so days of exclusivity before opening the door to relocation alternatives.
It's Not Really A Website Fail......Yet
It was supposed to help people out during storms and bad weather events. But La Crosse County Emergency Management Director, Keith Butler, says a storm and information website they created...well....it's just not working.
He says the Alert Lacrosse dot org website needs to be manned every day and right now they just don't have the resources to do that. They will, in the meantime, provide educational information and emergency related links for their web viewers.
Viroqua Fed Up With Nasty Texts And Facebook
Viroqua police can now issue citations punishable by a $298 fine for text and facebook messages that threaten, annoy, offend, demean, ridicule, belittle, disparage or humiliate. Police Daron Jefson says the issue has been building for about 8 months now.
Jefson says citizens complaining of harassment via text and Facebook prompted the ordinance, which is modeled after an ordinance in Janesville.
Viola Company Fined.....Again
OSHA calls it a lack of commitment to workers' safety and health and has cited Duraframe Dipnet of Viola with 20 safety violations including three repeat at the net manufacturer's facility. Penalties total over $71 thousand following OSHA's inspection. Similar violations were cited in 2009.
