Loggers Stadium Hit By Fire
The La Crosse Loggers have some rebuilding to do...and it doesn't have to do with how the baseball team has been playing.
The third base dugout and part of the bleachers at the Loggers stadium in Copeland Park have been damaged by an early-morning fire on Sunday. No cause has been determined yet. One firefighter had a minor injury. Loggers owner Dan Kapanke spent part of the day on Sunday examining the damage to the stadium.
Hearing Set On Stanley Records
A local newspaper should find out Monday whether it can see papers dealing with Bryan Stanley's release...
Stanley has been a free man for over a year, since being released from Mendota Hospital. He was committed there shortly after killing three men at an Onalaska church in 1985. The La Crosse Tribune will make arguments in court today about the public interest in finding out whether it's safe for Stanley to be in the community. Relatives of Stanley's victims are upset that the La Crosse County Sheriff's Department neglected to tell them once Stanley was out of the hospital.
Feds Send Money to State Who Brace For Future Flooding
Invest money now, save more money later. That's the thinking behind big fed grants getting announced today for a baker's dozen states. It's Disaster Recovery Enhancement Fund Money going to states for investments into projects that prevent large scale disasters in future flooding. Wisconsin is one of the big winners, collecting $15 million from the feds. But Iowa makes the big haul. Iowa has landed grants totalling $84 million for disaster preparedness and prevention.
