Committee Recommendation: No Punishment for Mayor
Get Out Of Jail Free Card? NOT!
Part of being jailed is to rehabilitate and get back into society. Someone forgot to tell that to 56 year old Christopher Lehner of Winona. The Winona County Jail inmate is now wanted after he failed to return to the jail after a brief furlough.
Seems as though jail staff let Lehner go to a class at the Winona County Workforce Center a couple of weeks ago....problem is he never returned and now no one knows where he is. That brought about a charge of escape.
He was doing a year in jail for bouncing checks and forgery..........he'll do a lot more when he goes back home........to jail. 5 years for felony escape.
Per Diem Reports Have Local Lawmakers on the Low End
State legislators in Wisconsin get paid the same salary no matter how many days they show up for work. Just over $47 thousand. But when they do claim work days in Madison, they get a little extra per diem bump. It's $88 per day for most legislators and 44 bucks for those who live in the Dane county area. Some make the most of it, like Republican state senator Scott Fitzgerald, who added over 16 thousand dollars to his salary last year. Others apparently just didn't put the time in. La Crosse democratic state rep Jennifer Shilling had one of the fewest per diem amounts last year among her colleagues: 58 days for about five thousand dollars. Not as low as Republican state senator Dan Kapanke who claimed 32 days of work in the capitol last year for 28 hundred dollars in per diem pay.
Big Snowfall To Miss La Crosse...For Now
Don't be too worried about the forecast of the 'monster' snow and ice storm sweeping through the middle of the U-S this week.
Meteorologist Todd Shea at the National Weather Service office in La Crosse says the storm is still more likely to affect southeastern Wisconsin than this area.
Shea predicts the storm system could bring La Crosse a little more light snow, on top of the three inches recorded on Monday. The city had 11 inches of snow for January...an inch-and-a-half below normal for the month.
Perplexed Strangler Expresses Frustration to Police
A La Crosse guy says he can't understand why the police are called everytime he and his girlfriend get into a fight. Cops say Micheal McLaurin claims there's really nothing to get into a huff over with the latest go-round between the two this week-end. Even though he apparently came at his girlfriend with a big pickle jar, hit her with a book and strangled her to the point where she could barely speak. The victim says he only let go of her throat long enough to tell his kids to go back to bed. The victim was treated at the hospital. McLaurin faces several charges in the assault.
