Trempealeau County board wants DA suspended, charged with felony

Written by

More trouble for the Trempealeau County district attorney.

The Trempealeau County board wants prosecutor Taavi McMahon to be suspended and charged with a felony for giving false information to the courts.

McMahon is accused of lying to a county judge about needing a special prosecutor because of health problems, claiming that he told a state agency about his health.

The Department of Administration says it never got such a message from McMahon -- that he never submitted legal papers backing up his claim.

On top of that, days later, McMahon told the agency he had a clean bill of health.

County employees claim that McMahon has been absent frequently from his office this year, leaving an assistant D-A to handle much of the court caseload.

McMahon confirmed he'll have a Thursday afternoon news conference at the courthouse in Whitehall, Wis., to address the accusations against him.
