Onalaska fire chief to retire in June

Written by

A vacuum of leadership is starting to form in Onalaska's city hall.

Just days after police chief Jeff Trotnic suddenly resigned, the city announced fire chief Don Dominick is retiring.

Dominick has been fire chief for the last 11 years and retires after a 39-year career as a firefighter.

Dominick's retirement is official on June 22.

Questions are still swirling around the abrupt departure of Trotnic, who had faced mounting criticism after months of an anonymous public shaming effort over an extra marital affair.

The Onalaska city administrator insists Trotnic's only stated reason for leaving is to pursue other career opportunities. He was at the department for a decade.
