Monroe County Fund Shot Down

A possible one million dollar fund that would have taken excess Monroe County department funds and put them towards construction of a justice center, will not see the light of day. Last week, the resolution fell short of the two-thirds requirement when supervisors voted 12-10 in favor of it.

The account would have set aside $1 million of unused 2010 funds for future construction of a Justice Center. Supervisors voted to eliminate $348 thousand that would have been taken out of the solid waste fund. Also cut was monies from the original $119 thousand of the unused 2010 balance of the Board of Prisoners.

Board chairman Rick Irwin says a similar resolution may be brought before the board in the future.
