Frac Sand Mining Meeting Coming

Representative Steve Doyle, Tara Johnson, Chair of the La Crosse County Board and Senator Jennifer Shilling are holding a community meeting on frac sand activity in the La Crosse area tonight. Doyle says frac mining is relatively new to the who has interest in it?

Frac sand is used as a tool in the extraction of natural gas and oil. Fractures are created in rock formations containing natural gas or oil. The type of sand found in Western Wisconsin is particularly useful to pump into the fractures to keep the rock fractures open while extracting the gas or oil. The meeting starts at 6:30 at the West Salem Public Library.
