Sierra Club Lawsuit Ending!

A settlement could be coming soon from a lawsuit filed a year ago by the Sierra Club against the Dairyland Power Cooperative and two coal fired plants in Alma. They were accused of not installing the required pollution controls when it made various upgrades at its plants at Alma and Genoa from 1993 to 2009.

Dairyland is now spending around 400 million dollars on pollution controls at its plants. But the action was the result of the Sierra Club's lawsuit and not because of government enforcement of air pollution laws over the years. according to The Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism.

They say the federal and state governments have had inconstent enforcement records.
