Copeland Park Named As Possible Army Training Site
Although small scale, up to 2,500 people, domestic operations exercises are held at Volk Field and Fort McCoy. But could they be coming to La Crosse in 2014? Volk Field and Fort McCoy have been selected as one of ten sites in the nation to do large scale domestic operations exercises. 5 to 8 thousand troops. Brendan Smith with Volk Field says it will allow local first responders to have hands on, real life mass casualty training, which in itself is a tremendous benefit to any community.
Other area venues being considered for exercises include the Juneau County Fairgrounds and Copeland Park in La Crosse. Smith says they are in the very beginning stages of talks with communities that could be involved.
