No Good Deed Left Unpunished For Veteran

A well meaning vet could be on the hook for almost two thousand dollars after trying to help out, what he thought was, another veteran who needed a hand.  La Crosse police say a 73 year-old from Georgia was at the airport car rental place asking about veteran discounts when he was approached by a rough-looking guy who identified himself as a veteran and needed help getting a rental car.  The well-meaning older vet rented the younger guy a car and put it on his credit card.  Later told police he did it because it was Memorial Day week-end and knows how hard it is to deal with post-war health problems.  Three weeks later, the car had not been returned.  Finally found parked at the Mayo parking lot in La Crosse.  Police are looking for an Onalaska man in the apparent theft.
