City Bans Fireworks for Fourth of July
That snap, crackle and pop has a little less pizzazz this fourth of July in La Crosse. The city has banned fireworks because of dry conditions. Not just the normally illegal fireworks that explode or shoot up into the sky, rockets-red-glare style, but the package of fourth of July poppers from Kmart. Dry conditions from extreme heat and no rain for a couple of weeks has led the mayor and the fire department to put a ban on all burning outdoors, including fireworks. The fireworks display shot from Pettibone park in La Crosse will not be affected by the ban and, because it would be almost impossible to do the fourth without burgers, brats and dogs, grilling will also be allowed under the fire ban.
