Union President Says City Workers Could Help With Cost Savings Ideas

Head honchos in the city of La Crosse make no secret of wanting to save money.  The city council has poked around the notion of hiring a consultant to come up with money saving ideas.  But ground-level city employees aren't getting asked for their input, says Rich Smith, president of the Service employees Union 180.  If he was asked, Smith says he might recommend trimming back on management levels

Smith says constantly cutting lower level city staff might save money in the short term but result in longterm costs as infrastructure repairs and maintenance get continually put off.
