This Summer Could Break Many Heat Records In Lax

The heat wave year of 1988 is still a record-setter for La Crosse...but maybe not for much longer.

The average high for a summer in La Crosse reached its peak in '88, and no other summer has come close to the 46 days of 90-plus weather that year. On the other hand, the average high for summer 2012 beat that 1988 record as of last week, with one month left in the season. Forecaster Jeff Raberding of the National Weather Service says this year's weather patterns are much like those of 1988, which included some hot August days.

Jeff says Tuesday could be another 90 degree day. The local record for July 31st is 103 degrees, set in...you guessed it...1988.
