A La Crosse man faces a list of serious charges after essentially torturing his girlfriend for a couple of hours at her apartment on Thursday.   Police say 39 year-old Lonell Powers spent two hours alternating between beating and strangling his girlfriend.  At one point, she used her pet snake to shield herself, because Powers is apparently scared of it.  At another point, police say the woman escaped to the neighbor's house but Powers dragged her back inside by the hair.  Among the charges Power is facing: strangulation and first degree sexual assault.  Apparently the violence erupted over the woman communicating with other men.
