4 Sent To Hospital After Early Morning Firework Explosion

5 high school aged students from Sparta were sent to various hospitals in the region this morning after a firework they were going to throw out the window exploded.

About 4:30 this morning, Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Sparta notified the Sparta Police Department that they were treating five juvenile males with various degrees of burns. Police believe the five were riding in a car and attempting to throw a lit firework out the window when it exploded inside the vehicle. It is unknown exactly where the vehicle was when the explosion occurred.

Four were transferred to various medical facilities throughout the region via medical helicopters. All five injured boys are 17 years of age and are from the Sparta area.
