Disparity Seen in Local and National Crime Trends
There's a sense among some that La Crosse's crime
rate is surging.
Not so, according to stats reported by the La Crosse
police department, at least not for many categories of crime. Between 2010
and 2011, the city reported a nine percent drop in violent crimes like rape and
battery. Far different from seventeen percent increase of violent crimes
reported nationwide for the same time period, according to new federal
numbers. La Crosse, meanwhile did see about a nine percent increase in
property crimes for the one year period. Still smaller than the 11 percent
increase witnessed nationwide
