County Board To Talk Overcrowding Tonight
A La Crosse County Board Planning meeting tonight will look at overcrowding at the county jail. After 2 years of being newly renovated, the jail is over capacity and before using taxpayer money to open new space, Sheriff Steve Helgeson says other options will be studied first.
The county may have to spend nearly $400 thousand to open a second pod built as part of the expansion unless the population drops soon. Money that Helgeson says he hopes does not have to be spent. The meeting starts at 6pm.
