Wisconsin's gas tax provides money for the state's transportation projects.  But in an ever decreasing amount.  Craig Thompson, with the Transportation Development Association of Wisconsin, is on a special state commission tasked with finding new funding solutions for roads as the gas tax shrinks in relation to project costs.  Among the options considered  by the commission:  A per-mile charge for drivers

Not a fee likely in the near future for the state, says Thompson.  He anticipates an increase in the gas tax, or a bump in car registration fees to help fund roads and other transportation projects.
