Vernon County Says No To Rude Texting And Social Media

Texting or hitting someone up on Facebook or other social sites with the intent to offend, demean, ridicule or degrade them could wind you up in jail. The Vernon County Board last week, on a 22-5 vote, passed an ordinance against sending electronic information with the intent to do these things to someone. And County Board Chair, Herbert Cornell, says they a lot of backing.

The ordinance provides for a forfeiture of between $50 and $500, plus prosecution costs, with those in default of payment being subject to up to 30 days in jail. Cornell says past problems with these activities going on with social media and texting led to the ordinance.
