Lax DA Preparing For Possible Review Of Sentence In Drunk Driving Death
A judge's sentence is supposed to end a trial where a criminal has been convicted...unless the convicted person decides to appeal.
Jesse Herrmann of Holmen is keeping his drunk-driving case alive, nearly a year after getting a prison term for causing a young woman's death in a crash. La Crosse D-A Tim Gruenke sees many appeals, a year or more after trial, so he's not surprised that Herrmann is asking for a change in sentence. Gruenke is providing briefs for Judge Ramona Gonzalez to review, so she can decide whether to reconsider the 30-year term. Herrmann believes the judge is biased against drunk drivers, because a sister of hers was killed by someone driving drunk.
