Search for Missing Boy Prompts Welfare Concerns

After spending much of a day searching for a five year-old last week, La Crosse police are wondering how well he's being cared for.  The boy apparently took off on foot on the northside and wandered about for five hours in the middle of the day before getting returned to his house by police.  City police, sheriff's deputies, even police dogs were enlisted to look for the boy before tracking him down shortly before dark, dressed just in a t-shirt and shorts.  His mother says it's not the first time he's disappeared on his own.  Partly why child protective services are getting the call from police today.
