New Lax Chamber Of Commerce Office Runs Into Roadblock

The plans for a new La Crosse Chamber of Commerce building may be moving ahead...very slowly.

The city plan commission is expected to talk tonight about the Chamber's request to build a one-story office on La Crosse Street, across from City Hall. That would be an exception to a city rule requiring business buildings in that section of town to be at least two stories. Chamber director Dick Granchalek says the variance was granted, but now the commission appears to have more questions about the project. Construction on the office has been stalled for several years, because of concerns about the economy.  Land set aside for the project includes the site of the former Besl family home, which was long known for fancy Christmas displays.
