Jackson Co. Woman Denies Heading Drug Ring, But Prison Term Stands
She claims she wasn't a gang leader or the head of a drug ring, and shouldn't be serving a 15-year prison term.
But a Wisconsin appeals court disagrees with Socorro Kerner of Jackson County, and is upholding her sentence on cocaine and marijuana charges. Kerner and about a dozen other people were busted on drug charges four years ago, in connection with a Jackson County operation that made at least a million dollars. She argues that prosecutors got a long prison term by portraying her as a 'hardened gang member.' The appeals court writes that the sentencing judge imposed the prison time to protect the community from a drug dealer.
