On Second Thought, Maybe They Shouldn't Have Planted So Many Ash Trees

Planting dozens of ash trees in the town of Onalaska years ago may have been a 'mistake,' according to one of the men who helped make it happen.

John Haese is now helping the town treat those trees with chemicals, to keep the trees from being killed by the emerald ash borer. Haese says town leaders should have planted a wider variety of trees in the past...and he's urging them to do that now.  The ash borer has not been detected yet in the town of Onalaska. Haese is planning to use the chemical treatment on the ash trees for the second straight year.  He says the ash borer was not a threat in the U.S. until it was brought here from other countries about 10 years ago.
