Not Much Movement in Scrapping Scoundrel Crackdown
A crackdown on scrap metal thieves doesn't seem to be in the works locally. We're told there hasn't been movement recently on ideas to go after those who are targeting vacant homes for copper pipes and wires. Onalaska state rep Steve Doyle says there's probably not much more the legislature will be able to do to beef up laws regarding scrap metal thievery
Since scrap metal prices rebounded post-recession, local police have recorded dozens of scrap metal rip-offs in vacant homes. And even some thefts from homes that aren't vacant.
